About Rosersberg Ruin Town
The ruin town is a training field which measures approximately 200×200 m used for training of firefighters, ambulance personnel, rescue dogs, etc. The training ground has several buildings in different stages of collapse, containers, car and train wrecks, etc. Visit Räddningsskolan AB for more information (in Swedish).
The field trial
A phone was hidden in several different places around the ruin town. In some searches the phone was hidden in plain sight but in most searches the phone was hidden under collapsed houses. The participants had no prior experience in searching radio based localization and only got a 5 minute demonstration of the system before they tried it out. The person that performed the search had no information as to the location of the hidden phone. In all searches the phone was found with ease.
In one instance the position right on top of the phone on a ruin was found but no way could be found to get down to the phone. When looking around, 30 meters away a small tunnel was found that led to the position under the location marked on top of the ruin where also the phone was found.
Some of the comments from the participants were: “This is just so easy”. “It is very intuitive”.
